Welcome to St. Francis School, B’Kara
An educational community rooted in the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi — nurturing strong moral convictions and academic excellence in our girls and boys.
Message of the Head
A welcome message from our Head of School — sharing our history, values and direction.
I welcome you all to St. Francis School, B'Kara with great pleasure and pride. Welcome to an educational institution which knows its origin way back to 1885 when the Franciscan nuns first opened their doors to educate young children at B'Kara.
Through the years the school has always strived for excellence in all spheres in the light of the experience of the Gospel and the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi. In our journey together we continue to build an educational community of people with a common aim of cultivating strong moral convictions and academic excellence in our girls and boys.
Motivated by the basic Christian value of Love and inspired by the Franciscan Charisma of Simplicity, St. Francis School B'Kara has gone through different stages of development and continues to evolve dynamically not just as a building or a structure but also in the way the school is run and the daily life within the school itself.
Focusing on the school's motto Aim High keeps us moving forward with a positive attitude towards life in general and our learning community. Together we question, we explore, we dream and we act to improve ourselves and our school.

Our Ethos, Premises & Projects
A welcoming environment with a strong sense of identity and community — supported by engaging learning spaces and meaningful projects.
School Ethos
The ethos of the school is grounded in the quality of relationships at all levels: between senior management and teachers, between teachers, between teachers and parents, between teachers and students, between teachers and external support professionals, and between students. Such relationships are characterised by mutual respect, by transmitting a clear message to students that they are of worth, by a willingness to listen and understand, and by a positive view of teachers as professionals and students as learners. Through good models of adult behaviour, there is constant encouragement to develop self-esteem, self-discipline and autonomous adherence to high standards.
In our school there is a very welcoming environment, along with a strong sense of identity and community within the school. Staff, pupils, parents share this sense of belonging and this enhances relationships. The School's staff makes a very effective team who work with parents when appropriate. Parents are encouraged to be involved in the life and work of the school and are always made welcome. Staff use praise a great deal and have high expectations of pupils. Positive behaviour is encouraged through the discipline policy. Pupil behaviour is mostly good with incidents of poor behaviour dealt with, in a consistent, fair manner. In considering development needs in this key aspect, we should continue to develop partnership with parents.
The Premises
Presently the school is functioning efficiently making use of 3 buildings which are found within walking distance in Mnajjar Street Birkirkara. The first building which houses KG, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 students has a multisensory room, library, chapel and emergent learning room, besides housing the heads and deputy heads’ offices.
The second building houses Year 4, Year 5 and Year 6 students, besides another Deputy Head’s office.
The third building is the multipurpose complex, which houses a large hall, a foyer, a PSCD room, a Creative Arts room, a Science Lab, a Home Economics Lab, a Guidance Room, a clinic and a spacious yard.
We are extremely proud of our school and we are constantly transforming it and modernising it, so as to make sure that it provides all the amenities necessary for learning at this day and age!
School Projects
St. Francis School Birkirkara prides itself in taking part in various projects, such as Ekoskola, Dinja Wahda and Let’s Talk Farming. Staff, students and parents alike take an active role in these projects and do their best to fulfill the various outcomes, goals and expectations. In fact, we have always achieved excellent results in all projects.
Besides these projects, the school is often involved in Erasmus projects to give educators the opportunity to enrich their pedagogical and methodological processes.
